Edinburgh, just 20 minutes away by train, is world renowned for its Hogmanay, New Year celebrations and Fringe comedy festival in August. But are you aware of the other 10 festivals? – the jazz and blues festival, book festival and the film festival to name just a few. In addition there are so many other attractions in Edinburgh such as the castle, the Royal Botanic Garden, wandering along the Royal Mile, exploring Edinburgh dungeon and of course a multitude of restaurants and shops.

The highlands aren’t far away either - Loch Lomond is a little over an hour’s drive away.

Linlithgow

Linlithgow is a small historical town with many local restaurants and pubs. Linlithgow Palace is majestically situated in the centre of the town, beside 15th-century St Michael’s Kirk, and overlooking the peel (park) and loch. The loch has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest thanks to its wildfowl population.

There’s plenty of easy walking nearby such as a stroll (or bike ride) along the Edinburgh & Glasgow Union Canal (just 5 minutes walk from the holiday rental), or a walk at Beecraigs Country Park.

For golf enthusiasts there are many local courses. St Andrews and Gleneagles would also make a good day out.
